Long Beach, CA – The City of Long Beach Department of Public Works will host a virtual community meeting to share updates and gather community feedback on the 1st Street Pedestrian Improvements Project, a transformative infrastructure investment that will enhance the pedestrian experience and revitalize the Downtown Long Beach corridor. The meeting will be held virtually from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 5 via Zoom.
At the meeting, the Public Works team will share an overview of the project, including a detailed look at the planned improvements, followed by an opportunity for attendees to ask questions, share feedback and brainstorm ideas for activating the historic original Metro Blue Line Rail Car #100 into the project scope. Those interested in attending are requested to RSVP online for a meeting ID and access code. Interpretation services will be available in Spanish and Khmer.
An Elevate ’28 project, the 1st Street Pedestrian Improvements Project underscores Long Beach’s commitment to creating an accessible and thriving community by creating a seamless, pedestrian-friendly link between Lincoln Park and the East Village Arts District and encouraging sustainable modes of transportation outside of personal vehicles.
Originating in 2015, the 1st Street Pedestrian Improvements Project has undergone different iterations over the years. Previous public updates in spring 2023 introduced conceptual plans for the project and garnered community feedback. Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2025.
Elevate ’28 is a comprehensive five-year infrastructure initiative featuring nearly 200 projects designed to revitalize parks and community facilities while enhancing accessibility and multimodal transportation throughout Long Beach.
